FAMILY MEDICINE – ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR; DIRECTOR

DUTIES: The Department of Family Medicine, College of Human Medicine seeks a physician trained in geriatrics to serve as Director of the Geriatric Collaborative in Family Medicine and the College of Human Medicine as well as providing a leadership role across the campus at MSU. This position will lead an expanding collaborative on geriatrics and gerontology with a vision to become a national model for innovative, collaborative, multidisciplinary and community-based research training and education. Development of Statewide research networks and training opportunities will build on the clinical and community data associated with the statewide community-based structure of the College and other MSU units. Other duties include a leadership role in the Geriatric Education Center of Michigan, recruitment of faculty (M.D./D.O., Ph.D.) in gerontology and geriatrics and establishment of the infrastructure necessary to facilitate mentorship, scholarship and rapid response to funding opportunities, and oversight of a statewide geriatrics fellowship.
QUALIFICATIONS: This candidate must be an MD/DO, residency trained and board certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine with a certificate of advanced qualification in geriatrics. It is anticipated that strong candidates for this position will have administrative experience in running a geriatric program/center/institute. Candidates will have research expertise with a track record of significant extramural funding and will be asked to expand extramural funding. Scholarship on issues of aging exist in multiple disciplines at MSU including sociology, psychology, psychiatry, social work, communication arts, health economics, spirituality, nutrition, neurology, rehabilitation and law. Research themes within the College and Department include: risk management, depression/dementia, hypertension in the elderly and access to care.

Fixed Term Faculty, 12-month basis, 100% time.
DUTIES: It is anticipated that candidates will have a research focus in adolescent risk assessment within the local and international health settings and will link with departmental themes in health promotion, disease prevention and outcomes assessment research. Teaching responsibilities are also an expectation of this position with a small amount of time for administrative work and for specific assignments from the chair.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. Cross-cultural experience will be helpful.
