NICHD and AHRQ National Children’s Study (NCS) - Pilot Study (GRIN-PBRN Study)
| Summers Holtrop J, Indiana University / AHRQ, 04/15/2004 to 09/14/2004, $87,000.
Study Purpose: To determine feasibility of collecting NCS data in primary care practices. Specifically: To determine if practices in the Great Lakes Research In Practice Network can collect this NCS data. Research Objective I: To determine if PBRN practices can collect data on the medical and dietary history of study participants by having an interviewer conduct an in-person interview. Research Objective II: To determine if practices can collect and manage data from a physical examination (including health status and urine sample) of study participants Research Objective III: To determine if practices can collect data from a developmental examination of children conducted at age one and age five, and a health related literacy exam for pregnant women Research Objective IV: To determine the factors which enable or hinder the collection of complete and accurate data among practices. Study Design: Using a non-experimental study design, we will assess whether primary care practices are capable of performing data collection duties similar to the anticipated NCS protocol without causing a disruption in routine clinical care. Study Population: Practices will collect data from either one or both of the two main respondent groups: pregnant women and children. Data collection will include 1) Medical and dietary histories 2) Medical examination 3) Urine samples 4) Developmental Exam (children) 5) Literacy test (pregnant women) 6) Survey about the patient’s experience in the pilot.
